ARTIST STATEMENT

Using art as a form of visual communication, I try to maintain both simplicity and depth in my work. My art expresses ideas and concepts based on my experiences and surroundings while conveying the emotional state of everyday people in everyday situations existing in a sometimes surreal environment. Using modern contemporary social themes, my work takes advantage of events happening in today’s world and creates a connection between the personal and public effects.

I don’t think art should be complicated; my work is based on modern contemporary, social themes to reflect the world around us. Thick black lines and bold colors are used to convey emotional strength and balance in a surreal environment. My style of painting is heavily influenced by the works of Jacob Lawrence, Stewart Davis, Salvador Dali, Charles White and Michelangelo.
